While in undergraduate school, I studied poetry as part of my BA in Creative Writing. I dashed off the little piece below the other day, and thought I might share it. It’s not the first time I’ve mixed poetry and crime, but definitely the first time I’ve used repeating sounds.

Bang bang bang and I run run run so  far far far from the scene.

Pound pound pound footsteps sound sound sound as chase chase chase after me.

Flee flee flee can’t catch catch catch me move move move so swiftly.

Now now now won’t take take take me down down down that easy.

Huff huff huff and I puff puff puff so tired tired tired already.

Trip trip trip I go down down down they catch catch catch up to me.

I know that I’ve done crime and mystery themes several times before in poetry over the years,  usually in more of a story poem structure, and I’m contemplating trying that again. If I do, I’ll share those here, as poems are a kind of “short” as well.
