Interview with the Author
What initially got you interested in writing?
A) Like many children, I had imaginary friends who got into all sorts of shenanigans. Instead of outgrowing them, however, they seemed to grow and change as I did. In my preteens, I learned to channel them into words and found a love of writing.
What genres do you write in?
A) My work tends to fit into urban fantasy or paranormal romance. I prefer the urban fantasy label, myself, because there are so many misnomers about the romance genre. Many people fail to realize how much adventure and fun there is in many romance novels.
What drew you to writing these specific genres?
A) In my youth, I became very interested in heroes and mythology and spent years studying legends from all over the world. With such a background, fantasy was sure to be where my imagination led. Then, in my teen years, I discovered the beauty of Fabio-laden book covers and decided to bring my two passions into a single story and give them a world where both romance and mythology could co-exist.
How did you break into the field?
A) As anyone who’s ever fought to enter the literary world can tell you, writing is the easiest part. After hitting a lot of brick walls, I decided to self-publish Shadow Pact and do what I could with social media. It didn’t take long before delays started happening because the print-on-demand model simply couldn’t keep up with the demand. I was offered a distribution deal and knew I needed to find a small print press to make it work. So, I started googling around for small print presses and Brown Books came up in the search. When I called and explained what I needed and why, Tom Reale (president of Brown Books) laughed and said, “I’m not a print press. I’m a publisher, and I want to see this book.” The next thing I knew, Brown Books was off and running with Shadow Pact.
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?
A) Shadow Pact is full of adventure and romance (and a dash of passion), but essentially, it’s about coming to terms with who we are and learning the greatest power comes when different people work together.
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
A) I love to watch the story unfold and see where it takes the characters. And the idea that somewhere, someone might be reading and enjoying the world that exists in my mind is simply amazing!
What do you find most challenging about writing?
A) When I’m writing, I disappear into the story so much I lose track of time. Thirty minutes or twelve hours can pass unnoticed. With a world of other responsibilities to juggle, I have to set alarms to break me out of my imagination and remind me what else I need to do.
What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field?
A) Stop sending queries! For anyone who’s serious about writing professionally, the only way to get anywhere is in person. Go to the conferences, meet the right people face-to-face, and network with industry professionals.
What type of books do you enjoy reading?
A) I’m an avid reader of romance (of course), but I also enjoy mysteries, fantasy, Janet Evanovich, and the audible version of the Harry Potter series has become the background sound of my life. (Love the narrator’s voice!)
Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you?
A) I’m also an RN with more than a decade of experience in the healthcare industry.
What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work?
A) My website is a great way to keep up with what’s happening. https://www.tallyadams.com/

About the Author
Tally Adams lives in Texas with her husband and four children (and one big, fat English bulldog). She’s been writing all her life, realizing at a young age the characters just swirl around maddeningly in her head if she doesn’t put them on paper. She began participating in adult writing competitions before she even hit her teens. Years later, she worked as a nurse and continued to write. Finally, she decided to move forward into the world of publication and share her imaginary friends with the world.
