INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR

What initially got you interested in writing?

Growing up I was always interested in writing but I always thought it would be fantasy. After my teen years, I learned to write a journal but was embarrassed by the truth and chose to write fiction based on my actual life events. I changed the truth into less embarrassing and more interesting stories.

What genres do you write in?

I do write a bit of fantasy but spend most of my writing in dystopian style teen fiction.

What drew you to writing these specific genres?

The Harry Potter series got me interested in writing fantasy stories. The Ender’s Game series from Orson Scott Card was the most inspiring to my style. The way Card expressed the raw emotion of a child in deep stress portrayed as a hero really spoke to me.

How did you break into the field?

After writing my manuscript, I realized I should probably try to publish. I used Google like a madman and submitted my manuscript to publishers I could find. I am still a new author and experimenting with how to be a published author but the only way to find out is to try and begin networking. As much as I would love to be a full time writer, I write because I love it so even though the struggle may last a while, I am committed because I love to express my passion through writing.

What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?

I have a lot of messages I try to express through my writing but the overall theme that inspires everything I do is acceptance. I hope that by reading my work that readers find a sense of hope for themselves as well as others.

What do you find most rewarding about writing?

The most rewarding thing I have found with my writing is having people read it and tell me that they relate to the story or a specific character. It tells me that some aspect of my writing has found meaning with someone.

What do you find most challenging about writing?

The hardest thing about writing is managing the many ideas. I will be writing one story and start having other story ideas that I need to organize in a way that doesn’t distract me from finishing a project or make my current project too complicated.

What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field?

Any aspiring writers need to find confidence in themselves. It is hard to commit to a project when new to writing. Being able to stay mentally and physically fit and find confidence will help any writer finish.

What type of books do you enjoy reading?

I love fantasy and science fiction books but my favorite would be any sort of story based on a real event or circumstance. I love to learn more about real people and their unique situations.

Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you?

I absolutely love mixed martial arts. I have been kick boxing about five years now. Something about getting hit in the face makes me feel at peace in my crazy life.

What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work?

Email is probably the best contact for me. Displayguaranteed@gmail.com

In the next 6-12 months I will have a functional author website but until then, email is best.
