To Fetch a Thief, the first Mutt Mysteries collection, features four novellas that have gone to the dogs. In this howlingly good read, canine companions help their owners solve crimes and right wrongs. These sleuths may be furry and low to the ground, but their keen senses are on high alert when it comes to sniffing out clues and digging up the truth. Make no bones about it, these pup heroes will steal your heart as they conquer ruff villains.

Pet Sidekicks
All of the TO FETCH A THIEF authors love their pets, and I’m drawn to mysteries and thrillers that have pet characters. My sidekicks are are two crazy Jack Russell Terriers, Disney and Riley. Disney’s been the model for Darby in my story, “Diggin’ up Dirt,” and Bijou in a cozy mystery that I’m working on. I started listing authors who have pets in their mysteries. I found lots with cats and dogs. And only one with a hamster. Who else would you add to our list?

- Robert B. Parker’s Sunny Randall and Rosie the miniature American Bull Terrier
- Ellery Adams’ Olivia Limoges and Captain Haviland the Standard Poodle
- Robert B. Parker’s Spenser and Pearl the Wonder Dog

- Spencer Quinn’s Chet and Bernie Mystery Series
- Dashiell Hammett’s Nick and Nora Charles and Asta the Terrier

Woah, good list of mysteries with pets. The animal characters provide opportunities for humor and for emotional connection. It’s good to track how the animals respond to the other characters, too. Thanks for spotlighting To Fetch a Thief. Book make great gifts! Happy Holidays!
