Summary:

Nothing good happens when people keep secrets.

Paige Bryant’s dreams of becoming a professional ballet dancer died along with her mother. Drowning in grief and plagued by guilt, Paige is blindsided by a provision in her mother’s will that sends her to live with the father she never knew. Forced to start over in a new town and at a new school where she’s now the principal’s daughter, Paige is convinced that her life can’t possibly get more complicated—until fate throws her into the path of the only boy her guardian tells her is off-limits.

Despite two years on the straight and narrow, Cade Matthews can’t escape his time as a juvenile delinquent. With his dad behind bars, Cade’s feelings of anger and betrayal are as relentless as the rumors he’s trying to outrun. The only person not listening to the gossip is the new girl with her own set of troubles, including a father who will never give Cade a fair shake.

As Paige tries to adjust to her new life and an uncertain future, a set of unopened journals reveals a dark family secret. When tensions rise to a boiling point, can Paige and Cade make peace with the past before it destroys them?

Guest Post – Typical Writing Day

It seems to me that everyone has a specific time of day when they feel most creative. I spent 20 years working as a TV news anchor, and most of that time on the AM newscast, so I find that I am most creative before the sun comes up (Oh-dark-30, as we called it in the newsroom).

I left my job as a journalist over four years ago, but mornings are still the time of day when I seem to get the most done. It’s not unusual for me to be up at four or five a.m. working on a manuscript, editing, or creating social media posts. The house is quiet, and it’s just me and my thoughts (along with the family border collie, Lucy, and PLENTY of idea-inspiring coffee).

If I could, I would write all day. After all, that’s the fun part. But when I published my first book, Not with the Band, I quickly learned that there are other areas of being an author that need time and attention, namely marketing. I often struggle with balancing those two areas (along with the rest of my life), but that’s not an uncommon problem among authors from what I hear. At the core, we all want to be focused solely on writing, but the other stuff is important, too. I’m still learning about balance. Every. Day.

Did I mention that I am easily distracted? Yup, by social media, emails, browsing on my kindle and—should I redecorate my office? Did I buy cat food? When did I last water the plants…? See what I’m saying? So, sometimes, my typical writing day isn’t quite as productive as it should be. What I love are the days when I find myself immersed in an idea, a chapter, or a portion of a story and time flies by. It was in those moments that I first fell in love with writing.

Kelli and her husband live in Oregon with their two teenaged children and an outstanding border collie named Lucy.
