Carrie Kennersly tries to help her veterinarian boyfriend when he’s under suspicion of murder…Is he a keeper, or should she let him go off-leash for good?

As a technician for a local vet and the owner of the Barkery & Biscuits dog bakery, Carrie Kennersly is excited to host a rescue animal adoption event. She’s also excited to be in a relationship with veterinarian Dr. Reed Storme, despite his pleas for her to butt out of the murder cases she keeps finding herself involved with. Yet when Reed is accused of killing his former veterinary colleague, he seems a lot more agreeable to having amateur detective Carrie butt back in. Can Carrie clear Reed, or does she care too much for a killer?

Includes recipes for dog treats and people treats!

Guest Post by the Author

Hi, everyone.  I’m Linda O. Johnston, and I’m delighted to be here as a guest poster on The Pulp and Mystery Shelf.  I’m currently on a Great Escapes Blog Tour to let people know about my latest book release: Pick and Chews, the fourth in my Barkery & Biscuits Mystery Series.  And yes, there will be a fifth.

So why do I enjoy writing them?  For one thing, they’re about dogs!  At least partly.  In the series, protagonist Carrie Kennersly is a veterinary technician who dreamed of becoming her own boss.  At the beginning of BITE THE BISCUIT, the first book in the series, a good friend had to sell her bakery, Icing on the Cake, and move away from Knobcone Heights, California, to care for her ailing mother.  Carrie bought it and converted half into Barkery and Biscuits, a store that sells handmade dog treats made from healthy recipes Carrie developed for patients as a vet tech.  She also maintained the other half, Icing on the Cake, to sell fresh baked goods for people.

Now, I’m not much of a cook, but I appreciate all the stores that are popping up all over where food and treats for pets are handmade.  Plus, Carrie, as a vet tech, knows what’s needed for the healthfulness of them.

The Barkery & Biscuits stories are cozy mysteries, so, yes, people wind up being killed.  But don’t worry.  All the dogs remain just fine.

Carrie has developed a romantic relationship with a veterinarian she works for in her continued part-time position as a veterinary technician, Dr. Reed Storme.  Reed is always getting on her case about becoming involved in all those murders, since it’s dangerous.  But in Pick and Chews, Reed backs off from his criticism and even somewhat encourages Carrie to get involved… because he’s a major murder suspect.

As a dog lover, Carrie has a dog of her own, Biscuit, a toy poodle-terrier mix.  Biscuit’s usually around since she can hang out in the Barkery while Carrie’s at work there.  Does she help to solve the mysteries?  Only as an emotional support pup for Carrie as she digs into the crimes.  And Biscuit does get to sample the Barkery’s dog treats.

It’s certainly fun to write these stories.  I hope you enjoy reading them!
