Former English professor turned blogger, Jade Blackwell, is enjoying her predictable routine when trouble comes knocking in the form of an old friend and colleague. Unbeknownst to Jade, Gwendolyn Hexby is no longer the successful academic she once knew and trusted—she is now following a new calling as a psychic medium, a contentious career that flies in the face of the logic and deductive reasoning Jade values.
At first, Jade welcomes the visit, but things soon turn bizarre as Gwendolyn brings only disorder danger and disruption. When a murder is prophesied, and a beloved pillar of the Aspen Falls’ community winds up dead, Gwendolyn becomes Sheriff Ross Lawson’s prime suspect.
To get Gwendolyn out of hot water, and more importantly, out of her house, Jade attempts to prove her friend’s innocence. Jade believes she’s finally discovered the truth, but is soon brought back to reality when she learns all is not as it seems in the realm of the metaphysical. Not even murder.
Return to the Jade Blackwell Cozy Mystery Series in Murder Over Medium

I Think My Writer is Trying to Kill Me Off!
Can we talk? I have something I need to get off my chest, and you seem like a trustworthy sort.
You know I adore my writer, Gilian Baker. She’s smart, sassy, and a bit eccentric, like me. But she can get me into some situations I’m not thrilled with. In fact, they are downright scary!
Three books, three near misses! What is she thinking? Is she trying to kill me off?
This last one was the worst. Not only was I almost killed, I had to live through a harrowing visit from an old friend who prophesied a murder…and then couldn’t leave town. I was stuck with the demanding woman, her assistant and her Siamese cat for weeks instead of days.
Yes, Gwendolyn Hexby is my old friend and former colleague, but she’s also a formattable woman. Besides which, I thought she was in town to give a series of lectures on religious studies topics—that she was still a college professor. But nooo. I found out, after she’d already unloaded her multiple suitcases, that she’d found a “higher calling” as a psychic medium, of all things!
So not only was I playing hostess to an extra person (her assistant) and cat (I hate Siamese cats!), but I also had to endure endless discussions about on spirit guides, auras and energy vortexes! I was forced to do as Gilian wanted and solve the murder to get Gwendolyn out of my house and onto the next stop on her metaphysical mischief tour.
I mentioned Gwendolyn announced a murder, right? She did it at my dining room table during a séance I knew nothing about, but that she had publicized online. The nerve, right? And, what’s worse is my writer, Gilian, dreamed this all up and made me go through it! I thought we were chums. I’m still not speaking to her.
So Gwendolyn goes through her whole woo-woo routine and then suddenly announces that someone in our quiet little village is going to be murdered, though it will look like an accident. It was totally creepy! And wouldn’t you know? She was right! I don’t know how, but she was. Before I knew it, the sheriff shows up on my doorstep wanting to know how Gwendolyn knew about this murder. Heck, I wanted to know too. But when I asked, all I got was a lot of paranormal nonsense.
Things went from bad to worse after that. So many interruptions to my daily routine. I’m a busy online entrepreneur, for crying out loud. I’ve got a business to run and didn’t have time for Gwendolyn and her band of misfits’ shenanigans.
Of course, in the end, I solved the murder and saved the day, once again putting my life in danger. So now I have three solved cases under my belt, and I’m really starting to look over my shoulder. Aspen Falls was a safe Rocky Mountain hamlet before Gilian discovered us. Now it’s all murder and chaos.
Though I confess to enjoying a good murder mystery, it’s different when it’s in your own backyard…literally this time.
But I suppose I’ll make lemonade. At least you lovely people can enjoy a great cozy mystery, even though I had to put my life on the line to provide it. Make sure to stay tuned to see what high jinks Gilian Baker drops me into next. I need someone to watch my back!
Mysteriously Yours,
Jade Blackwell
