What initially got you interested in writing?
I found my passion for writing during my early days in school. I would write plays in primary school and then later my creative writing in High school took over in speeches and dramatic stories. Although in Matric I did tend to sleep through my English classes. And I mean hard core sleep, dreaming and the full bit. Shakepeare was absorbed through osmosis.
How did you decide to make the move into being a published author?
I’ve always wanted to be published. It was my first writing goal. It was a pipe dream, especially after the multiple rejections. But I kept at it till the surreal moment I got a contract
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?
I want them to feel light and happy, as though they watched a feel good movie. A story and characters that stay with them well after the last page is turned
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
When someone says that they loved the book – is there any better reward?
What do you find most challenging about writing?
Dialogue! The plot in your head and the conversation on paper are two very different things. Trying to be funny and engaging is not so easy
What advice would you give to people want to enter the field?
Write because it’s a passion, because the characters need to be heard, the story needs to be told. Don’t let anyone discourage you. Do what makes you happy and keep at it. It’s not an easy road but it is worth it
