Too many suspects can be as bad as no suspects at all…
Lark Davis, horse trainer and reluctant amateur sleuth, is sure that her crime-solving days are behind her. At least that’s what she told her grandmother. However, when her Homeowners Association President and owner of the local hardware store is found dead the day after she had a public fight with him, Lark is back in the last place she wants to be — the middle of a murder case.
But this is Barrow Bay, and things are never as they seem. Gerald Pratchett had a list of enemies a mile long, and each one had a very real reason for wanting to see him gone. When the police get overwhelmed with too many suspects, including herself, Lark realizes that it is up to her to bring his killer to justice.
Nothing can stop Lark from finding out the truth — and getting her man.
About Annabelle Hunter
Interview With the Author
What initially got you interested in writing? A dare. I dared my husband, who I still think is a much better writer than me, to write a book and he said he’d do it if I did. So I did it. He didn’t.
What genres do you write in? Right now I’m focusing on Cozy Mystery, but I’d love to do something in the Paranormal Cozy, or just straight Urban Fantasy. We’ll see what happens.
What drew you to writing these specific genres? I’m going to blame my mother and Agatha Christie. My mother is a huge BBC fan, and I grew up watching Perot, and Miss Marple, and the old version of Sherlock. I then graduated to watching any funny police procedural made, so, it was kind of a natural fit. It’s a little funny, because I like to read Urban Fantasy and Romance, but I’ll watch a mystery show over anything else any day of the week.
How did you break into the field? I wrote my first book, Leg Up, and sent it out to a few people who agreed to read it. When they came back saying it didn’t suck, I took their suggestions and kept asking for help. I was blessed with so many amazing beta readers with great suggestions and soon I found my two editors, Casey from Inked Hearts, and Josh from Scrivere, and they helped me put it into a professional package to release. I’ve been blessed to find readers that enjoy my book and I thank them all for their support and kind words.
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works? I want them to be happier for reading it. That’s all. Yes, there are deeper elements to the story, and messages that I find important, but nothing really compares to my desire for people to walk away with a little more happiness than when they started reading.
What do you find most rewarding about writing? I love it. I love finding new characters in my brain. I love giving them a story, and then changing the story when they go the wrong direction. I love seeing them grow and change. There is nothing like it and I look forward to writing every day.
What do you find most challenging about writing? Editing. There is no ego in editing. It takes forever, I find myself doubting my writing, and I never do it to the point that it’s flawless which is why I have multiple people proofread… it’s very stressful. But I do it so I can write.
What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field? This is not something you should do alone. There maybe a few people who lock themselves up and never talk to others, but a lot of people need follow writers to throw ideas off of, to beta read, to calm us down when it’s a bad day. Being a writer is hard. People make it easier, if you can find the right ones.
What type of books do you enjoy reading? I’m a voracious reader, so I have little genre loyalty. I love classic fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal cozy, cozy, historical romance, contemporary romance, clean romance… if there’s some romantic anything happening, I’m in.
Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you? People seem to ask if I actually ride horse, which I do. I’ve competed up to first level in dressage, and I’m trying to compete next year, however my horse is recovering from an injury sustained while being stupid in her stall, so we’ll see what happens. I might have to live vicariously through Lark for a while.
What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work?
