Welcome to Bushwhack, New Mexico: home to tourists, the great outdoors, and murder…
Tourist season has hit Bushwhack and Andie Sullivan–owner of Sullivan’s Adventure Company–is ready for her town to fill up with city slickers, snotty teens, and the dollars she needs to keep her business afloat after her messy divorce from Bucky Gunn–local celebrity rafting guide and Sullivan’s main competition. With all her guided tours booked, it finally seems lady luck is on her side.
But then Bucky is found dead. Not great.
And she’s the prime murder suspect. Double not great.
Being framed for murder sucks worse than a rabid chipmunk bite. Andie’s determined to clear her name, and this time her survival training skills won’t be used to fetch an ice pack. But how long can she stay one step ahead of a killer before she becomes the final victim?
Interview with the Author
What initially got you interested in writing? I’ve been writing since I was a little girl. I used to write stories out in my diary, some were movie scripts others were fictional short stories, then when I got to high school I joined Yearbook and a creative writing class. I entered a poetry contest my sophomore year, won, and got published for the first time at fourteen years old. But the first book I ever wrote, and sold to a publisher, was back in 2014 when I was pregnant with my first child and couldn’t sleep. Guess you could say poor sleeping habits got into publishing.
What genres do you write in? Cozy Mystery, Romance, Romantic Suspense, Romantic Comedy, and I dabble in Thriller. One day I hope to publish a thriller.
What drew you to writing these specific genres? Originally, I sold a mystery with humor to a romance house through my then agent. The series had romance in so I upped the romantic elements and the book came out as a romantic suspense, although the series to its core is a mystery with humor and romance. It’s a follow the bread crumb cases type of book, just my latest release THE KILLER OUTDOORS. I adore a good mystery plot, with some humor on the side.
How did you break into the field? I sold my DEPUTY LANEY BRIGGS MYSTERY SERIES to Entangled Publishing back in 2015. And from there I just kept writing.
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works? I want them to be happy after reading my books. To be swept away from everyday life for just a moment, and enjoy themselves as they get lost in my fictionalized worlds. I also love it when they fall in love with my main characters and ask my questions about them.
What do you find most rewarding about writing? The escape from everyday life, and the smiles on my kid’s faces when they find out I released another book. Their smiles are the best motive to keep writing, because they see their mom doing something out of the ordinary, and they feel no dream is out of reach.
What do you find most challenging about writing? Finding time. I run an insurance company with my husband. Yes. I’m married to the boss, but he will tell you I’m the boss. Somedays, I’m just really exhausted from work and kid stuff. But I manage to get the words in.
What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field? To just write. The other things come once you have a book.
What type of books do you enjoy reading? My favorite reads are thrillers. Which is funny, because I can’t for the life of me write something without some humor in it.
Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you? I love to cook. I’d might call myself a suburban chef in my own kitchen. Hand me recipe and I create the meal. It’s so much fun. lol
What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work? My reader group, Jodi’s Book Corner, Facebook, Instagram and my website. But I’m very active in my reader group.
About Jodi Linton
Hey Y’all,
I’m just a girl from Texas, minus the big hair…and oh, yeah, a horse. My crew consists of two kiddos, one which inherited my makeup addiction, and a husband still living out his garage band dreams, but in our closet next to my shoe collection.
I love to hang out with my readers, discussing books, recipes and just everyday shenanigans. I got started in the romance community, which you might know a few of my books from there. Now, I’m all about the cozies…and the coffee. Yeah, can’t forget that.
I’d love for you to come join my reader group, Jodi’s Book Corner or come like me on Facebook to discover my books. And chat. Naturally.
