Guest Post

Guest Post #1: Interview with Cabot Murray, former Chicago homicide detective.

Q: “So Cabot, tell us why you returned to Freeland after so many years away?”

A: “I, ah, decided I’d had enough of police work.” Always watching, always waiting for some nut job to jump out from behind a door, he thought. After Maggie and Lindy were killed, I thought I could get back to normal. “I thought being back on the old family farm would provide some balance. You know, after so many years in noisy, crime-ridden Chicago.”

Q: “And have you found it? The peace and quiet you were looking for?”

A: “Oh, you bet. The land … it’s just the medicine I needed.”

Q: “Medicine? Are you under a doctor’s care?”

A: <laughing> “No, nothing like that. It’s just … I guess I missed falling into bed so exhausted after a long, hard day that I fall right to sleep.”

Q: “What’s your favorite part of being back in Freeland?”

A: “That’s easy.” Cabot pictured Elice, and smiling, said, “I met someone … interesting.”

Once upon a time, Loree (literally) sang for her supper, performing alone
and “opening” for the likes of Tom Jones, Dottie West, The
Gatlin Brothers, and more. Though she refuses to share the actual
year when she traded her Yamaha 6-string for a wedding ring, she IS
willing to admit that, every now and then, she blows the dust off her
six-string to croon a tune or two. But mostly, she just writes (and
Loree and her husband split their time between a home in the Baltimore
suburbs and a cabin in the Allegheny Mountains, where she continues
to hone her “identify the critter tracks” skills. Her
favorite pastime? Spending long, leisurely hours with her
grandchildren…all seven of them!
