Former pharmaceutical researcher Maggie O’Malley is losing sleep. Her boyfriend Constantine’s aunt is a multitasking sleepwalker who, in addition to wandering her stately home, prepares meals, folds laundry and, one winter night, stumbles across her husband with his throat slit.
It’s a rude and gruesome awakening that’s upsetting to Aunt Polly. And interesting to the police.
Maggie and Constantine work to uncover who killed the cosmetic surgery mogul and why. As they dig into the lives of those who knew him best, they discover that the truth is only skin deep and doctoring perception is a treatment with deadly side effects.
A gripping page-turner with more twists than a surgeon’s suture, 39 Winks is a tale of lies, betrayals and greed that will keep you up at night. And looking over your shoulder.
Interview with the Author
What initially got you interested in writing?
I’ve written for my supper for more than 20 years. As an avid reader, I’d always wanted to try my hand (or keyboard?) at fiction. A quasi-midlife crisis provided the incentive for doing so.
What genres do you write in?
I write mystery, although some consider my books thrillers. Maybe they’re thri-steries?
What drew you to writing these specific genres?
I was an English major. Although I loved reading the classics, as soon as I graduated, I went back to my reading loves: mysteries and thrillers. I decided that I wanted to write the kind of books I love to read.
How did you break into the field?
After a lot of work, I landed an agent then procured a three-book publishing deal with Henery Press. I’m so lucky to have these professional partners in crime!
What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?
I hope that readers feel entertained and engaged. I also hope they come away with sense of hope. For me, crime fiction is about fighting the good fight, righting wrongs and seeking justice.
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
I love hearing that I’ve inspired readers to stay up too late to read my books. Insomnia is a symptom of a good mystery!
What do you find most challenging about writing?
The deadlines can be brutal. In addition to writing the next book, I’m promoting others already released and editing those in queue. Plus working as a copywriter and being a wife and mom. Some days I feel as though I have more hats than a chapeau shop!
What advice would you give to people wanting to enter the field?
Write every single day, and keep at it! This can be a tough industry to break into, but that whole perseverance thing really does pay off.
What type of books do you enjoy reading?
Mysteries, thrillers and suspense are my favorite books to read, and I love if they have an interesting hook or storyline.
Is there anything else besides writing you think people would find interesting about you?
People might find it surprising that I scuba dive, can quote Monty Python’s The Holy Grail almost entirely by heart, do Jazzercise, and have a deep and abiding love for black licorice.
What are the best ways to connect with you, or find out more about your work?

I’m looking forward to reading 39 Winks, and I loved Protocol. Favorite Monty Python lines: “Wot, the curtains?” and “Your father smells of elderberries!”
